Spirulina (Scientific name: Arthrospira platensis) is among the earth’s most important natural resources; in evolutionary terms it has existed for 3.8 billion years. Its history as a stable in human diet is unique; there is evidence that the Aztecs used it in the early sixteenth century. It was harvested from lakes in Mexico and made into small bricks that were eaten as cheese would be eaten today. It was previously known as Spirulina platensis and today the scientific name is Arthrospira platensis – Algae for mankind. It’s a member of the Cyanobacteria (blue-green algae) family.

All vitamins are found in Spirulina and it’s commercially cultivated in several of the leading countries in the world. In some countries it’s a priority crop.
